Inside The Fort

My final year Social Work training required me to undertake a major practical project. I decided to use photography to introduce two men with so-called 'learning disabilities' to the community they would be living in as they moved into 'community care' from institutional care. The idea was for them to take portraits of all the people/occupations that would 'support' them, the binman, doctor, shopkeeper etc and in doing so introduce the two men to their community on the basis of their ability rather than disability. The work they produced was spectacular, won them numerous arts awards, and was toured widely by The Scottish Arts Council.
