Lairg Lamb Sale

The Lairg Lamb Sale is the biggest one-day sale in Europe. Up to 30,000 animals go through the auction ring in the day, with several auctioneers working non-stop. It is an important economic event and because many hill farmers work in remote locations it is also an opportunity for old friends to meet up, and new acquaintances to be made. The auction hall is constantly filled with the frantic shouts of the auctioneers, a buzz of conversation, and sheep bleating. A grand day out!
